A Mercer County man admitted Wednesday he fatally shot a man in the head inside an Applebee’s restaurant in 2017 as part of a plea deal with prosecutors that calls for seven years in prison.
Noel Powell III pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, an act committed in the heat of passion with reasonable provocation, before Judge Darlene Pereksta in Superior Court of Mercer County. The agreement calls for Powell to serve 85% of the seven years - 5 years and 11 months - before he’s eligible for parole.

Authorities have arrested two people and released chilling details of a deadly Trenton shooting from earlier this month.
Surveillance tapes show that a man later identified as Nasir White, 24, drove a gold Honda Accord onto Chase Street, then stopped in the middle of the road around 3:30 p.m. Dec. 8, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said.
The driver then got out, walked to the back seat driver side and shot 43-year-old Joel Alexander in the head, Onofri said. White then dragged Joel onto the pavement, got back in the car where Monet Maiden, 22, was waiting for him, and drove away, the prosecutor said.

The killing of Joel Alexander in Trenton last week was an execution committed by a driver who allegedly stopped a gold Honda Accord in the middle of a North Trenton street, fired a bullet into Alexander’s head and then dragged him from the backseat to the pavement, authorities said Wednesday.
Nasir White, 24, of Ewing, is the accused gunman, and he was arrested a few days later in Lawrence with the car, two guns and with two women, one authorities say was in the car when he allegedly killed the 43-year-old Alexander on Dec. 8.
