FCA Annual Day Of Champions To Be Held May 16 Wednesday, May 12, 2021 Chattanooga FCA to Host Annual Day of Champions Sunday, May 16 The Greater Chattanooga Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host its annual Day of Champions event Sunday, May 16 at 3 PM at Ridgedale Baptist Church. At this event, the ministry will announce several award winners, most notably the 2021 FCA Christian Athlete of the Year. Since 1965, the local FCA chapter has chosen a senior athlete nominated by their local school’s FCA sponsor for this award based on their character, leadership, and involvement with FCA. The winner will receive a college scholarship from the Gerald Sinkfield Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Sinkfield was a prominent high school and college athlete who loved the FCA ministry and served on the Chattanooga FCA board for many years.

City Council Approves $800,000 Of COVID Funds For Needy Agencies Tuesday, January 5, 2021 - by Joseph Dycus The Chattanooga City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to approve the first reading of an ordinance that will appropriate $800,000 to several organizations. Getting the funding will be the Tivoli Theatre $225,000, the Forgotten Child Fund $75,000, the Bessie Smith Cultural Center $40,000, Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga for eviction relief $60,000, COVID contingency fund $100,000 and the Small Business Relief Fund $300,000. It had been proposed by the administration that $160,000 go to United Way, but that money went instead to the eviction relief and the COVID contingency.  Earlier that afternoon, the Council decided the money granted by this ordinance was needed as quickly as possible. However, city attorney Phil Noblett said an ordinance cannot be passed on two readings on the same day.

Those interested in helping others may contribute an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item benefiting the Forgotten Child Fund and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. With the charitable donation, participants will receive 10 percent off a Tivoli Theatre Ornament or Limited Edition Poster, both benefiting the Tivoli Theatre Foundation Recovery Fund. There will be holiday music, door prizes, and raffles for gift cards good for future show tickets and gift shop purchases.
