Insurer AXA hit by ransomware after dropping support for ransom payments By 12:24 PM Branches of insurance giant AXA based in Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines have been struck by a ransomware cyber attack. As seen by BleepingComputer yesterday, the Avaddon  ransomware group claimed on their leak site that they had stolen 3 TB of sensitive data from AXA s Asian operations. Additionally, BleepingComputer observed an ongoing Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) against AXA s global websites making them inaccessible for some time yesterday. The compromised data obtained by Avaddon, according to the group, includes customer medical reports (exposing their sexual health diagnosis), copies of ID cards, bank account statements, claim forms, payment records, contracts, and more.

Hackers deadline for PN data leak lapses with no further updates

An extended deadline which hackers gave the Nationalist Party has come and gone with no further information.  The deadline lapsed in the early hours of Saturday morning but as of 2pm, the cybercriminals’ threat to publish stolen PN documents and take down the party’s website had not yet materialised.  A note on the hackers’ website instead noted that the next update was “coming soon”.  Screenshot of hackers website on Saturday Last week, the PN was given a further 192 hours, or eight days, to “communicate and cooperate” with hackers who obtained party documents and threatened to release them online. Hackers also said they would subject the PN’s website to a Distributed Denial of Service, or DDoS attack, effectively taking it offline.

This targeting has occurred across multiple industry sectors. In addition to encryption of data, victims are threatened with the publication of stolen data, as well as Distributed Denial of Service against their network. The ACSC has provided analysis of the malware including detection methods, indicators of compromise and mitigations. Assistance The ACSC is monitoring the situation and is able to provide assistance and advice as required.
