Commissioners question sheriff’s use of discretionary fund

CHARLES TOWN The Jefferson County Commission has questioned Sheriff Tom Hansen’s use of discretionary funding in his office for items they would not likely have approved.
Earlier this month, Hansen’s office hosted a Cruiser Competition event, welcoming multiple police jurisdictions to Jefferson County to attempt to earn bragging rights for their vehicles. Expenses for the event were incurred and paid out to three vendors out of the sheriff’s Concealed Carry Permit discretionary fund.
Commissioner Jane Tabb brought up the expenditures during the approval of manual checks portion of the commission meeting. Hansen had written the checks to pay the three vendors from an account on which he is the only signatory. Tabb confirmed that although the commission “technically has to approve all manual checks,” the checkbook for the account is maintained in the
License to Carry Instructors Worry About Repercussions of the Constitutional Carry Bill
Concern by license to carry instructors is mounting in the wake of the new Constitutional Carry Bill that is about to hit Gov. Greg Abbott s desk.
According to NewsWest 9, there is plenty of support for the bill but there is also a group that is in opposition of the bill also.
To have a concealed handgun, you must take a class and get training on how to handle the gun.
Instructors of these classes know how important these classes are at teaching safety practices and learning the laws associated with carrying a gun.

Support NRA-ILA
As we previously reported, anti-preemption legislation, SB 554, was scheduled for 2 Public Hearings and a possible Work Session, starting today. With less than 20 hours before public hearings were set to begin, Senate President Peter Courtney (D - 11) submitted an extensive proposed amendment to SB 554, Amendment 20 (A-20). A-20 would combine anti-preemption legislation with the mandatory storage requirements proposed in HB 2510.
Please contact committee members and ask them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 554.
