Tennessee House Committee Passes Constitutional Carry Bill
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 15, 2021) – Last week, a Tennessee House committee passed a “Constitutional Carry” bill that would make it de facto legal to carry a firearm in the state without a license, fostering an environment hostile to federal gun control.
Rep. Bruce Griffey (R-Paris) introduced House Bill 18 (HB18) on Dec. 3. The proposed law would create “exceptions” in existing state law for open or concealed carry for those who are not prohibited from possessing a firearm. Under existing Tennessee state law, residents must get an “enhanced handgun permit” to carry weapons openly or concealed where permitted, while a “concealed handgun permit” only allows permitted holders to conceal carry.
Idaho House Approves Bill Letting Some Staff Carry Guns at School
House lawmakers in Idaho have passed a bill that would let some school employees carry concealed firearms without the need for school board permission.
In a 52–18 vote on March 11 approving the measure called House Bill 122 (pdf) lawmakers moved to expand the ability of school staff members to carry weapons on school grounds, which under current law requires a nod from the school board.
While some Idaho school boards already allow staffers to carry, Rep. Chad Christensen, a Republican who sponsored the bill, said it shouldn’t be up to officials to make determinations about constitutional rights.

Six years after Texas passed a controversial measure allowing licensed gun owners to carry concealed handguns on college campuses, one Republican state lawmaker is pushing to expand the law by allowing licensed adults to carry weapons in public and charter schools.
