Between the ages of 4 and 11, I was molested and sexually abused by two different men at two different times of my childhood. The second man was a Catholic priest from my parish, Our Mother of Sorrows in Johnstown. His name is Martin McCamley. This man was a fixture in my life, whether I was serving a Mass he was presiding over or whether he was at our home, where he found himself quite often.

Local Church Vandalism 11:03 pm A church in Cambria County was vandalized sometime earlier this week. Now, the diocese and its parishioners are working to deal with the aftermath. The Church of the Transfiguration in Conemaugh has been a part of the community for nearly 100 years. Earlier this week, Father Robert Hall noticed the building was broken into and vandalized. “It is devastating. And it is disappointing. But evil exists in the world and we know God’s going to triumph over it so he will get us through. We just got to keep persevering that’s all,” said Hall. Desecration is the term used when a church is vandalized like this. A police report was filed with East Conemaugh Police Department- regarding damages and missing items.

Pastor Terry Knipple of Franklin Street United Methodist Church, 510 Locust St., downtown Johnstown, said his Advent message has centered around God’s faithfulness. “This year especially people need to be reminded that God is in control and this pandemic didn’t catch him by surprise, and that our faith is what carries us through the good and bad times,” he said.

Ciesielka Sister Celeste Ciesielka, 64, a member of the Carmelite Community of the Word, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, after a struggle with COVID-19. She is mourned by her mother, Leona; and her sister, Gerry, as well as her Sisters in the CCW community. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry, and her Sisters in community: Sister Mary Gainino, Sister Maryann Palko and Sister Marjorie Monahan. Sister Celeste spent her life in service to others throughout the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. She ministered in roles of pastoral ministry and pastoral education in numerous locations and served in spiritual director roles for Cursillo and Third Order Carmelites. She functioned as a caseworker for Catholic Charities and as hospital chaplain in Altoona. Her most recent ministry brought her to her home parish in Portage, where she visited the sick as a pastoral minister. She volunteered her service to others in various other capacities.
