Catholic Diocese Advises Members To Not Get Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

Mar 4, 2021 Catholic Diocese Of Harrisburg Advises Members To Not Receive New Johnson-and-Johnson Vaccine (Harrisburg, PA)   The Diocese of Harrisburg is discouraging Catholics from receiving the new COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson-and-Johnson. The city s diocese announced yesterday it is supporting the stance taken by the United States Conference of Bishops against the Johnson-and-Johnson vaccination. Officials say it is urging Catholics to avoid getting the vaccination because it was produced using a cell line derived from tissue of fetuses aborted in the 1970s and 80s.

COVID-19 has been no match for Franklin County s private schools

COVID-19 has been no match for Franklin County s private schools Chambersburg Public Opinion While most of the nearly 1,500 private-school students in Franklin County have spent all but a few days in their classrooms in the 2020-21 school year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, almost half of the more than 22,000 public-school students either just returned to school this week or are still in full-time distance learning.  The rest of them learned exclusively online for a month or more.  Students have been on campus all year at Corpus Christi Catholic School, while Shalom Christian Academy, Cumberland Valley Christian School and St. Andrew Catholic School closed for a few days, according to school officials or information on school websites. At Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners have been coming to their classrooms all year, although grades one through eight returned over the past month after several weeks of distance learning.

Echoes Baptism during COVID? Published 2/24/2021

Q. My wife gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy about five months ago. He has not been baptized yet, due to concerns around COVID-19. Our current plan is to wait until grandparents, godparents, immediate family members and spouses as well as ourselves have had the opportunity to get vaccinated which, as you know, may still not happen until the summer or later. Has the Church made an official statement on how to handle situations like this or have an opinion? Does our approach make sense, or should we consider changing it? (Louisville, Kentucky) A. I congratulate you on the birth of your new baby boy. This is surely an exciting time for you and your wife and for all of your family. I can well understand your desire to have everyone together to celebrate the good news. But I would surely suggest that you have the child baptized soon and not wait for months until everyone has the chance to be vaccinated.
