THE LINKSPAN at the Skerries ferry terminal has been replaced this week by local contractors Malakoff Limited, working for Shetland Islands Council.
The old linkspan, approximately fourteen metres long and 30 tonnes in weight, has been replaced with a new one, fabricated at Malakoff’s yard in Lerwick.
New hydraulic pumps, generators and control systems have also been installed, replacing the previous equipment.

MV Filla used the new linkspan for the first time on its scheduled arrival at around 9.30am this morning (Friday).
The next linkspan to be replaced as part of the council’s ongoing work programme will be at Symbister ferry terminal in Whalsay in September.
