The decision of the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) to reject Ombudsman Martha Chizuma as the new Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) director has annoyed scores of Malawians with most ranting that the Committee’s pronouncement is a massive drawback in as far as fighting graft in the country is concerned.
Barely three hours after the verdict of Chizuma’s rejection was made known to the public, Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has announced that it will stage a march to parliament next week on May 18 to “bring back our Martha Chizuma.”

Cheating does not pay, so the saying goes! The proverb has proven true for the former Director General (DG) for the State-funded Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Godfrey Itaye, and many others who have had their contracts with the Authority nullified today.
The Ombudsman Martha Chizuma has ordered the nullification of all the contracts Itaye et al following revelations that they were illegally and irregularly employed at MACRA.
Chizuma makes the sentiments when she released a report of her findings of her investigation into allegations of irregularities, nepotism, tribalism, abuse of office and other acts of maladministration in recruitment process of some staff members by Itaye whilst he was heading MACRA and his own recruitment.

Airtel Malawi Plc has introduced a no-validity data bundle named ‘PaNet NoVa’, for 1GB which will offer Airtel customers more freedom to surf the internet at their leisure.
Effective today (April 22) Airtel has also revised the prices and volumes for some daily, weekly, and monthly data bundles and are immediately available by dialing 301# or using the My Airtel mobile App.
This has been announced as the company rolled out the reduction of data prices which was announced by Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) as directed by the Ministry of Information to engage the mobile network operators to review and revise the current data prices.
Veteran journalist Limbani Moya, who was working at Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) as Broadcasting Monitoring Officer, has died at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre of CoVID-19 complications.
MACRA’s Communications Manager Clara Ngwira confirmed of the death and said the late Moya’s remains is expected to be taken from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for his residence at Namiyango in Bangwe Township tomorrow (Friday) and thereafter his burial at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre.

Close family sources say sadly, he has died a day after returning from India where he had a successful kidney transplant. He was discharged from the Indian hospital on Tuesday, March 20 and arrived back home in Malawi on Wednesday, April 12.
