Parley Passes 24 Votes, Opposition Question Some Allocations
When Parliament reconvened Wednesday afternoon, legislators seemed to be on the fast lane passing 24 votes in space of 3 hours.
Vote number 278, Unforeseen Expenditures attracted attention with members seeking to find out from Minister of Finance, Felix Mlusu justification for the increase in funding allocation.
The vote was initially given 2 billion kwacha and had been revised to 25 billion kwacha, representing a 23 billion kwacha increase.
Among those that contributed included, Mangochi South West, legislator who is also Chairperson of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Shadreck Namalomba who wanted to find out a justification for the increase.
The government has revised upwards the 2020/21 national budget from K2.2 trillion to K2.3 trillion owing to increased emergency expenditure due to the Covid-19 pandemic and re-administering of the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) among other things.
Presenting the mid-year budget statement in Parliament, Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu said the revised budget has a deficit of K810 billion up from the initial K755 billion representing 8.8 percent of gross domestic product.
Mlusu said last year the economy grew by 0.9 percent but it will experience a rebound this year to achieve the projected growth of 3.5 percent owing to the anticipated better agriculture outturn due to the Affordable Input Programme (AIP).

Since its full operation in 2019, Domasi Management College for Social Sciences (DMC-ss) is gaining ground in supplementing tertiary education and creation of jobs.

The institution was established to support underprivileged Malawian youths and promote behavioral change. The college’s owner and director, Brave Nyirenda says he recruited a good number of lecturers as one way of supporting the nation on employment.
Located at Zomba City Boundary (main stage at Chinamwali trading centre), DMC-ss is a non-governmental institution, registered and recognised by the Malawi government as one of technical colleges in the communities and uses international examining boards.
Two men have spent a night within the walls of Mzuzu Police Station after being found in possession of counterfeit Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
The two who identified themselves as Suddie Juwawo, aged 26, from Pombeya village, T.A. Nsamala, Balaka and Blessings Chikumbutso, aged 25, from Dawuya village, T.A. Kaphuka, in Dedza were arrested during the ongoing Malawi Defense Force (MDF) recruitment at Mzuzu Upper Stadium, where the two suspects presented the certificates.
Deputy Spokesperson for Mzuzu Police Inspector Paul Tembo said military personnel with their experience doubted the authenticity and true ownership of the documents.

They refered the matter to Mzuzu Police Station where after questioning Suddie Juwawo revealed that the certificate he presented belonged to his late brother who passed in 2015.
