Covid-19: Risk-based approach instead of blanket MCO will boost tourism, says MATTA

We welcome the Prime Minister s announcement on this new approach as this is a positive step. He acknowledged that there needed to be a more holistic and scientific approach rather than imposing a total lockdown on an entire state or area. Travel restrictions were the main crunch that industry was facing, its president Datuk Tan Kok Liang said on Wednesday (March 17). Tan also said the special RM3,000 grant to more than 5,000 tour agencies registered with Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry was a step forward in helping those badly affected by the pandemic. We had asked for a RM10,000 grant when we met the tourism minister recently but RM3,000 was announced instead.

Domestic cruises can help revive tourism sector, says MATTA

KUALA LUMPUR (March 15): The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has been working very closely with industry partners and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to kickstart domestic cruises as a way to help revive the ailing tourism sector. MATTA President Datuk Tan Kok Liang, in a statement today, said it has received word from the Ministry of Transport that standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the operation of domestic cruises are being actively discussed with the National Security Council. “MATTA has long recognised the immense potential of the cruise industry which benefits not only travel agencies but also hotels, the aviation sector, theme parks, attractions, retail and many other tourism-related industries.”

Govt urged to open up CMCO states to tourism travel too

IPOH: Traders at tourist spots in Perak are hoping that interstate travel for tourism will be allowed in states under the conditional movement control order as well. Trader Allen Ho said it was very confusing for everyone when people could travel to some states but not to others. “The government should either allow all tourism spots to open or close them totally. “Now I am hoping that Perak will also be under the recovery MCO soon, so that people will be able to visit, and we traders will have business as well, ” said Ho, who sells clothes here at Panglima Lane, popularly known as Concubine Lane.
