JOHOR BARU: More 32 tonnes of acacia wood planks from Vietnam have been seized by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) during an inspection at the Pasir Gudang Port here.

BUTTERWORTH, Feb 11 The Penang chapter of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized RM4.28 worth of frozen buffalo meat bearing unrecognised halal logo during inspections at the North Butterworth Container Terminal here last Monday and Tuesday.
Its director, Zarina Ramli, in a statement, said that 17,370 boxes of the frozen buffalo meat, weighing a total of 335, 914kg, were found in 12 containers from India.
“We found that all the boxes are using a halal logo unrecognised by the Malaysian authorities and we have seized it for further investigations under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011,” she said.
JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained three more Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) enforcement officers over the meat cartel scandal.
The trio, aged from 40 to 55, were arrested at the Johor MACC headquarters at around 7pm on Monday (Jan 18).
The suspects were detained for alleged bribery pertaining to import of frozen meat which did not receive the Veterinary Department s approval.
They are being remanded for five days until Jan 23 to help with the investigations under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2019.
It is learnt that the Maqis officers were stationed at Tanjung Pelepas Port, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex and in Muar prior to their arrest.
