The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) said it had RM65.9 billion worth of potential investments being actively evaluated as at December 2020. Once approved, these projects are expected to be implemented in 2021 to 2022, it said in a statement today.
Malaysia continues to be a competitive investment destination despite the current uncertainties, proven by its rankings in the global economic scene, said Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
BY the end of this decade, Malaysia will become a high-value-added economy and a net exporter of home-grown technologies and digital solutions, according to the road map set out in the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint. “The role of digital technology is evident, especially since a year ago, following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to all countries facing difficult challenges to continue business as usual,” said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the launch of the blueprint on Feb 19.
CONNECTIVITY is a highlight of the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. In his speech during the launch, he said the government would invest RM21 billion over the next five years to achieve better network connectivity. This will be carried out via Jalinan Digital Negara (Jendela), which was formulated to provide wider coverage and a better-quality broadband experience for the people, while preparing the country for 5G technology.
He also said several telcos will invest RM1.65 billion to build international undersea submarine cables to strengthen internet connection and enable faster and more stable international data transfer, thus lowering internet costs to consumers in Malaysia.
