MAHB eyes RM1 3b investment to transform Subang Airport into regional hub

SEPANG (April 19): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is eyeing a total investment of RM1.3 billion for Subang Airport’s (SZB) regeneration development that will transform it from an airport operator to an ecosystem master developer and aviation hub in Asia Pacific. KLIA Aeropolis Sdn Bhd head Randhill Singh said RM300 million will be needed for the common infrastructures and RM1 billion for building lettable facilities such as hangers, factories, maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO), as well as workshops.  He said SZB will leverage the same global technology platforms and vendors used in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to have access to global practices and standards, ensuring complete synergy in passenger experience with KLIA.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) expects 20 new international destinations and 80 additional domestic flights would boost air travel further for its network of airports, including the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISG) in Turkey. In a statement today, MAHB said the new destinations include Hamburg, Basel, Zurich, Sarajevo, Copenhagen, Lyon, and Hannover for flights from ISG with up to 25 weekly frequencies. Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukri Mohd Salleh said although Malaysia and Turkey still imposed travel restrictions, the airport operator remains optimistic as the demand for air travel is still prevalent based on the continuous new flight offerings by airlines.

Domestic passenger movements came in at 4.4 million, down 68% year-on-year while international passenger movements were at 1.5 million, down 87.3% y-o-y, MAHB s latest passenger traffic data snapshot filed with Bursa Malaysia today showed. The group s total aircraft movements decreased by 68% y-o-y to 75,789 with domestic aircraft movements declining 63.8%, while international aircraft movements fell 75.1%.
