A Climate Resilient Community In Newburyport Rises From Toxic Ashes

Passive house buildings under construction at the Hillside Center for Sustainable Living in Newburyport, Mass. (Robin Lubbock/WBUR) Just off Route 1 in Newburyport, a bit of the future is under construction. A huge orange crane hoists a three-story concrete slab and flips it precisely in place, forming the wall of a home. The crane accomplished in five days what would have taken weeks using standard building techniques. The construction system has not been done before in this scale for residential, says Boston developer David Hall, who with his partner, architect Keith Moskow, modified the commercial building method known as tilt-up construction to create the Hillside Center for Sustainable Living. They re building the village on a remediated brownfield, after removing 3,000 tons of toxic ash.

Image Credit: SUBMITTED/RCMP May 14, 2021 - 11:38 AM The body of a missing Vernon man, David Melanson, was found in Kamloops Lake yesterday afternoon. Around 1 p.m. on May 13, Tk emlups Rural RCMP received a report of a body found in the lake near Frederick Road, and confirmed it was 21-year-old Melanson upon arrival at the scene, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release. Kamloops RCMP reported him to be missing on Wednesday, May 12, and after searches in the area, his body was found in Kamloops Lake. Melanson s brother, Steven Melanson, said David was a patient at South Hills Psychiatric Centre in Kamloops where he had been in care for two days.
