Another 210,000 Americans Affected by Netgain Ransomware Attack
The number of Americans affected by a cyber-attack on a cloud hosting and IT services provider has increased by 210,000.
Netgain Technologies LLC, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, was forced to take some of its data centers offline after falling victim to a ransomware attack on November 23 last year. A few days after the attack, customers were emailed warnings that system outages or slowdowns may occur.
The company provides services to several organizations in the healthcare and accounting industries, including Woodcreek Provider Service, a medical-practice management company in Washington state that provides support to pediatric clinics and urgent care centers owned and operated by MultiCare Health System.
Health system hack exposes 200,000
TACOMA (AP) A medical practice management firm that provides support to Tacoma-based MultiCare Health System has alerted over 200,000 patients, providers and staff that their personal information may have been exposed.
Woodcreek Provider Services announced Tuesday that after a ransomware attack of its tech vendor, the information was retrieved upon paying an undisclosed ransom, The News Tribune reported.

The list of healthcare organizations affected by recent vendor security incidents - including the recent attack against Accellion - continues to grow.
For example, the supermarket and pharmacy chain Kroger reports that more than 368,000 individuals protected health information was affected by the Accellion hacking incident, according to the Department of Health and Human Services HIPAA Breach Reporting Tool website, which lists health data breaches affecting 500 or more individuals.
In a recent statement, Kroger says Accellion notified the company that an unauthorized person gained access to certain Kroger files by exploiting a vulnerability in Accellion’s file transfer service.

SEATTLE - A cyberattack has exposed the personal information of 200,000 people connected to Tacoma-based MultiCare Health Systems.
In a statement to Q13 news, MultiCare said the breach was isolated to a third-party server tied to a number of pediatric clinics for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Network. The breach was isolated to Woodcreek’s server, which is a separate system from MultiCare Health System and Mary Bridge Children’s. The primary electronic medical records database for the system was not affected by this incident.
