Strange blend of antifa and government-denying sovereign movement come together in fast-changing saga.
In a year of the unusual for Portland, the saga of the Red House eviction blockade stands out.
The Kinney family s refusal to leave their former house on North Mississippi two years after it no longer belonged to them drew together belief systems from opposite ends of the political spectrum and sparked a standoff that made national news.
Perhaps the most unexpected part? The unusual melding of tactics and ideology appears to have won the day so far, at least.
On Sunday, city officials and representatives of the blockade reported a tentative agreement, allowing the reopening of streets and sidewalks around the house that had come to look more like a war zone.

Convicted double murderer Jeremy Christian, who is now serving a “true life” sentence at an eastern Oregon prison, has appealed his case to the state Court of Appeals.
Christian gave notice to Multnomah County Circuit Court Dec. 2, more than five months after he was sentenced for the May 2017 first-degree murders and a hate-fueled crime spree.
No court documents have been filed yet that outline the grounds for Christian’s appeal or even whether Christian is simply appealing his conviction, his life sentence or both.

Details of the agreement that will end the standoff in North Portland have not yet been released.
Mayor Ted Wheeler said he reached an agreement Saturday night, Dec. 12, with the Black and Indigenous family who has been fighting to keep their foreclosed North Portland home. He said the streets and sidewalks near the home will be reopened.
Details of the agreement have not been announced. The property owner has reportedly said he is willing to sell the house for its purchase price of $260,000 and $20,000 in taxes he paid on it. The family has reportedly raised more than that through an online GoFundMe drive.
