In early February, the catalytic converter was stolen out of Kristen Simmons’ Prius.
“I got it replaced at Broadway Toyota,” Simmons said, “and when I went to drive off the lot it sounded like they hadn’t replaced it.”
So, she said, they put her car back on the lift.
“The new one had been cut out while the car was on the lot,” she said.
The theft of catalytic converters a part of the exhaust system that helps reduce harmful emissions in most cars built after the mid-1970s is a big problem for car owners.

The legal team for Joey Gibson, the leader of Patriot Prayer who was accused of riot crimes in Portland in 2019, released a statement on Thursday announcing that the district attorney has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate his actions in the prosecution of the case. Several questions have arisen to call the whole process into doubt.
In the statement, Gibson’s legal team said:
Special Prosecutor Investigating District Attorney Mike Schmidt for Biased Enforcement
Yamhill County D.A. Brad Berry has been assigned as special prosecutor to oversee an investigation into political and religious bias in the prosecution of Joey Gibson and Russell Schultz for violation of the Oregon anti-riot statute, ORS 166.015 during a political protest held outside the former Antifa hangout known as Cider Riot in Portland.
Dispute prompted Portland RV pipe bombing, DA says
District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced charges against Jake Swingle following the incident on March 6.
A man who allegedly built and exploded a pipe bomb during a dispute with the owner of an RV faces multiple felony charges, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt has announced.
Jake Kenneth Swingle, 24, faces one count each of first-degree arson, manufacture and possession of a destructive device and unlawful use of weapon for the alleged March 6 bombing of the RV parked in the 3800 block of Northeast 141st Drive in the Argay Terrace neighborhood.
Investigators say the PVC bomb broke the rear bumper of the RV in half. The damage included small fragments of cardboard, insulation and plastic, and the metal compartment was deformed as it would be from an explosion, according to a news release.
