PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A 22-year-old Portland man has been charged with manslaughter after authorities say he accidentally shot his brother with a firearm they had been trying to figure out how to operate.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office on Monday filed the charge against Angel C. Martinez in the death of Christian Martinez, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. The shooting happened Saturday in a Portland apartment complex.
Martinez flagged down a Portland police officer and said he had shot his brother, who was inside the apartment with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with Multnomah County Circuit Court by Deputy District Attorney Amanda Nadell.

That process, in which Multnomah County takes a one-night census of all the houseless people it can find in the county, is part of a federal effort overseen by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The count is a key component to ensure continued eligibility for state and federal funding for homeless programs, but late last year, the feds said counties could seek waivers due to the pandemic without endangering funding. The feds have already granted King County, Wash.

A Spirit Airlines passenger has been charged with felony assault for punching another traveler, allegedly because the woman’s children wouldn’t stop kicking the back of her seat.
Daydrena Jaslin Walker-Williams, 29, admitted that she hit Nataly Hernandez 2 to 3 times with her fist after their flight landed in Portland, Ore., on Sunday, per an affidavit of probable cause obtained by The Oregonian. Walker-Williams claimed that during the flight, Hernandez ignored requests to tell her kids to stop kicking the back of her seat, and also that Hernandez had hit her on the shoulder after one such request.
