Portland-Area Prosecutor Charges Three After Rioting on May Day
The prosecutor overseeing Portland on Monday filed charges against three people arrested during rioting on May Day.
Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt opted to charge three of the six people initially taken into custody.
Phoebe Loomis faces charges of felony riot and criminal mischief after allegedly smashing windows at two different Starbucks locations and at Sasse Wellness & Med Spa on May 1. Damages at each location are estimated to cost more than $1,000 to repair.
When Loomis was arrested, police officers found a bent metal bar in her possession.
Quang Nguyen was charged with felony riot, criminal mischief, and attempted criminal mischief. According to Schmidt’s office, Nguyen destroyed a window at a Starbucks before trying, but failing, to destroy a window at two other Starbucks in downtown Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Crews rescued four people who got stuck on the side of a cliff while exploring canyons in the Columbia River Gorge, authorities said.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office received a report about 12:30 a.m. Friday that the group had been stranded for about 10 hours and needed to be rescued, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.
The sheriff’s office said the group, who had proper safety equipment and were dressed appropriately, started at the Wahclella Falls Trailhead east of Multnomah Falls.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office got a report about 12:30 a.m. that the group had been stranded for about 10 hours and needed to be rescued.
The sheriff’s office said the canyoneers, who had proper safety equipment and were dressed appropriately, started at the Wahclella Falls Trailhead about 10 miles east of Multnomah Falls.

Somewhere along the way, a rope became stuck, leaving them stranded during a descent. One climber became trapped between two waterfalls 50 and 65 feet tall, respectively separating them from the rest of the group.
