Fire Destroys Vacant House in Moundsville | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer Photo by Scott McCloskey Multiple Marshall County fire departments responded to a vacant house fire at 79 Oak Ave., Moundsville, early Monday morning. No injuries were reported after several Marshall County fire departments responded to an early morning vacant house fire at 79 Oak Ave., Moundsville. According to Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Danny Holmes, they received a call at approximately 4:40 a.m. of possible electrical arcing on a utility pole outside the residence. He said the Moundsville Police Department arrived on the scene first and reported a fire in progress. Holmes said when the fire department arrived on the scene a fire had already begun on the first floor of the structure.

Marshall Memo: Honored Patriots of Marshall County Compiled by Local Historian | News, Sports, Jobs

JIM COCHRAN Local historian Thomas James recently donated three military reference books that he compiled and gave to the three Marshall County libraries–Moundsville, Cameron and Benwood-McMechen. The book is titled “Honored Patriots of Marshall County, West Virginia.” James undertook this research project at the invitation of the Marshall County Commission. His work details the military service of 464 county soldiers who died in the line of duty. The scope of the project encompasses those who served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf Wars. The names of these soldiers are engraved on five granite monuments in the Veterans Plaza on the Marshall County Courthouse.

Marshall County Chamber Outlines 2021 Events Calendar | News, Sports, Jobs

Jim Cochran Marshall County Chamber of Commerce executive director Scott Reager this past week announced special events for 2021. Via Chamber Chatter, the weekly newsletter of the Chamber of Commerce, the dates of seven events which the Chamber will hopefully be able to sponsor were announced. Along with plans for these events, requests were made for members to volunteer to spearhead these attractions. Of course, the key to having the events will be if Gov. Jim Justice changes the numbers of individuals who can gather. Reager hasn’t scheduled any of the events until early April in hopes that the governor will act in favor of the Chamber.
