Library Offering Bagged Book Program

WHIZ News Library Offering Bagged Book Program MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-The Muskingum County Library System is beginning its annual Book Bag program.  The program is a favorite amongst library staff who look forward to it year round. Marketing assistant Rob Cook tells us more.  “Once a year, much like the Super Bowl, we have our book bags to go program. Which for adults is a great opportunity to learn about new authors and new genres. What you do is you grab one of these bags, it has three books in it, you read the books, return the books, but you keep the bag. Each of the bags is labeled with what kind of genre it might be.”, Cook explained.

Library Offering Bonus Checkouts

WHIZ News Library Offering Bonus Checkouts The offer is valid through the end of February. Marketing director Sean Fennell tells us more.  “Hoopla, for the month of February, will be offering what they call bonus borrows. You’re allowed fifteen checkouts a month on Hoopla, and that can be anything from an ebook to an audiobook, movie, television series and music, but during the month of February Hoopla is offering bonus borrows which allows you to get any of those titles and they won’t go against your fifteen.”, Fennell explained the offer. The library system and Hoopla have long been partnered to offer easy checkouts. Fennell is very happy with the partnership. 

MCLS Showing Documentary for Black History Month

WHIZ News MCLS Showing Documentary for Black History Month MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-The Muskingum County Library System is showing the documentary “Black Men in White Coats” in February.  The documentary is all part of the library’s plans to celebrate Black History Month. Director of Marketing and communication “That documentary explores the reasons why in 2014 less black men applied to medical school than they did in 1978. This film is going to explore some of the reasons behind that and how we might be able to, as a community, come together and help solve some of the issues surrounding why more black men aren’t applying to medical school,” said Marketing and Communication Director Sean Fennell.

Library Holding Family Reading Activity; Scholarship Help

WHIZ News Library Holding Family Reading Activity; Scholarship Help The activity is a Facebook Live event. The book is perfect for children ages four to nine.  “Wednesday at two pm we will be having a Facebook live event featuring this book, The Weeping Wombat, written by Tracy Hecht, illustrated by Josie Yee. We are partnering with the publisher Fable film Press. This is part of a series called the nocturnals. It’s a really cute series featuring some animal friends and focuses on social and emotional learning for kids.”, Assistant librarian Jennifer Heston told WHIZ. The library system is also running a program for helping high school students apply for college. The program is in conjunction with the Muskingum County Community Foundation.
