Fourth quarter surge earns Electrics first win
PHILO, Ohio – Seven hundred twenty eight days.
That’s how long it’s been since the Philo boys have won a game against a Muskingum Valley League opponent, a 51-38 win over Maysville on February 2nd, 2019.
The team has come within a fingertip’s grasp of multiple wins this season, including two losses where the opponent’s go-ahead score occurred with less than five seconds left in overtime.
Saturday night, the Electrics would have another chance to finally end the drought when they welcomed the 4-10 Crooksville Ceramics to the Power Plant for an MVL inter-divisional matchup.
THORNVILLE, Ohio – The two champions of the Muskingum Valley League’s football season never met on the field, but on Friday night, we got the next best thing.
Meadowbrook and Sheridan both ended the 2020 football season undefeated against league opponents. Meadowbrook fielded arguably the most potent offense in the league, while Sheridan’s defense was by and large the most intimidating in the area.
Unfortunately, due to the football season (and the world as a whole) being turned on its head, we were never able to see the teams compete in what would have been the must-see game of the entire year.

Former Scottie reflects on Bearcats’ historic season
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 2017 Tri-Valley Scotties put together a football season that has gone down in the history books.
The 2017 Scotties were the first team from Muskingum County to ever play in an OHSAA state championship football game. They were also the first Muskingum Valley League team to make it to the title game since Sheridan did so in 1987.
On the defensive side of the ball, no one had more impact on the team than senior linebacker Nate Lawler.
Despite playing the entire season with a dislocated shoulder, Lawler led the team with 74 tackles. At the end of the season, he accepted an offer to join the Cincinnati Bearcats team as a preferred walk on.
