AUSTINTOWN After a year of being closed, the Austintown senior center is now open for business in a limited capacity. Its reopening comes after township trustees gave the green light, provided that COVID-19 numbers continually decrease.

dskolnick@tribtoday.com Ohio is expected today to exceed having 40 percent of its population at least start the COVID-19 vaccination process. There were 4,658,250 people, 39.85 percent of the state’s population, who at least had started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Thursday, including 42,498 in the previous 24 hours, according to the Ohio Department of Health. The pace of inoculations has slowed in the past few weeks. On April 15, 4,254,389 people, 36.4 percent of the state’s population, had at least started the process. In a two-week span, 403,861 were added, which is 28,847 per day. The state was averaging two to three times that amount in March and through the first week of April.

The Moderna vaccine will be available for appointments between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30 with the follow up dose scheduled on Friday, May 28. The department will take 40 walk-in appointments for the Moderna vaccine.
