Vaccinations in Mahoning Valley nursing homes are expected to begin next week, and preparations are underway for Trumbull County’s emergency medical responders to receive vaccines.
“At this time, it appears that all of the Trumbull County nursing homes have registered with the state to receive vaccines from the contracted pharmacy chains Walgreens and CVS,” stated Natalie Markusic with the Trumbull County Combined Health District in an email. “The pharmacy chain assigned to each nursing home will coordinate directly with the nursing home itself to vaccinate residents and staff. Vaccinations are to start next week.”
Danielle Procopio, director of marketing, sales and communication for Shepherd of the Valley’s corporate office, said their facilities in Howland and Liberty are expected to start receiving vaccines on Monday from CVS. Procopio said the system is expecting to hear from CVS soon to see which day Mahoning County locations will start.

YOUNGSTOWN Mahoning County Public Health is expected to receive a first shipment of the Moderna vaccine, pending FDA approval, next week. The exact date and quantity of vaccine being allocated in the first shipment has not been provided, but the agency is anticipating about 600 doses.
In anticipation of the vaccine, Mahoning County Public Health has been coordinating with two congregate care facilities that were unable to participate in the federal pharmacy program.
Further planning continues with identified Phase 1A community partners who are at greatest risk for exposure and transmission of COVID-19 due to their occupation. This includes members of local Emergency Medical Services along with the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board and those employed in home health who are not being vaccinated by the hospitals or healthcare systems.
