NORRISTOWN – Thursday s Montgomery County Commissioners meeting quickly devolved into a spat when the board s lone Republican s comments on pro-Trump riots in Washington, DC were met with accusations of racism. It s a charge the commission s Democrats have been making for months.

Republican County Commissioner Joe Gale, a vocal Trump supporter, began his comments about the violence at the U.S. Capitol by stating that he has always supported law enforcement.
Adding that he s praying for the nation, Gale went on to say he had been smeared and censured by the rest of the commissioners for his support of police during riots in almost every major city in the country this past summer.
NORRISTOWNÂ â Tensions flared during Thursdayâs virtual Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting as legislators reacting to Wednesdayâs unrest in the nationâs Capitol reopened old wounds locally.
In his opening remarks, Republican Commissioner Joe Gale recalled the criticism he received from a June 2 statement he issued about âlooting, violence and arsonâ surrounding protests in Philadelphia following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.
In the statement, Gale called Black Lives Matter a âradical left-wing hate group,â as his racially charged comments sparked widespread backlash throughout the Montgomery County area.

NORRISTOWN â The Montgomery County Commissioners announced that construction to repair sinkholes on Butler Pike (between Flourtown/Plymouth Roads and Germantown Pike) is complete, and the road will reopen to vehicular traffic on Friday, Dec. 18.
âWe are pleased to announce we have completed the Butler Pike sinkhole remediation work ahead of schedule despite the unusual working conditions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic,â said Valerie A. Arkoosh, chairwoman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. âMontgomery County remains committed to the safety of both our employees and residents. We thank our contractor Loftus Construction for delivering a high quality work product and helping us reopen this important stretch of road in record time.â
