Since 2010, when Beech-Nut shifted its operations to the nearby town of Florida, the once-bustling buildings have steadily deteriorated, and the place is now a major eyesore. At the brainstorming session I attended, residents understood that redeveloping the site would be a major challenge, but also expressed hope for its future. Outlet shopping and condos, restaurants and manufacturing these were among the ideas proposed for the sprawling property.

E29 Labs is a team of experienced commercial cannabis production professionals that are poised to capitalize on the state’s recent legalization of the industry. At Tuesday’s meeting of the County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, the Legislature advanced a funded exclusive development option agreement, which would convert to a purchase-and-sale agreement, pending the completion of a12-month due diligence period by E29 Labs.

The Montgomery County Legislature s Economic Development and Planning Committee advanced a development option agreement Tuesday night. It could convert to a purchase and sale agreement for E-29 labs within a year. E-29 is hoping to capitalize on New York’s recent legalization. The project could generate tax revenue and create jobs.
