Public input sought on Montgomery County Cross County Trail

NORRISTOWN — The Montgomery County Planning Commission, in partnership with its consultant, NV5, has initiated work on studying the feasibility of the easternmost segment of Montgomery County’s Cross County Trail. This 6-mile-long segment, when completed, will begin at Welsh Road in Upper Dublin Township and terminate at the county’s Pennypack Trail. The project may involve several municipalities, including Upper Dublin, Upper Moreland, Horsham, Hatboro, and Bryn Athyn. “Once completed, this important connection will link at least two other well-loved regional trails together, including the Power Line and Pennypack Trails,” said Val Arkoosh, chairwoman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “It is very exciting to see this work move forward, and we encourage residents to attend the upcoming public meeting and provide their feedback on this project.”

Montgomery Awards Program recognizes projects that benefit communities

NORRISTOWN — As the process to review submissions for the 54th annual Montgomery Awards Program gets underway, officials were looking for excellence. “We’re trying to emphasize what’s really exceptional so that it can inspire people to keep doing that,” said Pattie E.B. Guttenplan, the assistant director of design and outreach for the Montgomery County Planning Commission. There have been 222 projects recognized since the awards program was first created in 1967, according to a county spokesperson. More than 50 years later, the county’s planning commission continues to review residential, commercial, historical, revitalization, transportation, and open space projects. - Advertisement - Guttenplan oversaw the proceedings of the 53rd annual award ceremony, which occurred in the midst of the public health crisis.

North Wales recap: New county planner needed

NORTH WALES — A key figure who has helped plan the future of North Wales Borough over the past half-decade is moving on. Borough Manager Christine Hart announced earlier this month that Maggie Dobbs, the borough s liaison to the Montgomery County Planning Commission, is moving on. She has accepted a position as director of planning and zoning and assistant manager at Westtown Township, in Chester County — which is good for Westtown but bad for us, Hart said. - Advertisement - Starting in early 2016, North Wales has contracted with the county planning commission for work on a series of long-term projects, most notably the two-year public process that started in June 2016 to update the borough s comprehensive plan. Dobbs helped lead a series of public meetings through 2017 and early 2018 to gather input on the plan, before it was presented to council and the public in fall 2018 and formally adopted that September.
