Hundreds turn out Juneteenth to stop desecration of Maryland cemetery

Residents here used the occasion of Juneteenth celebrations, for the first time an official national holiday, to step up an ongoing struggle to stop the desecration of an African cemetery. The Moses Cemetery is a place where freed Africans are buried, part of a tightly-knit Black enclave formed in the wake of the abolition of slavery in Maryland. A coalition of activists had to be formed to save the cemetery after the arrival in 2017 of a company determined to build a self-storage facility on the site. Live music, food, alcohol will be available June 14, 2021 | 4:20 pm June 14, 2021 share this For pups sniffing out some fun this summer, the Montgomery County Parks Department will host a pop-up place to play in Chevy Chase on July 8. The one-afternoon pop-up dog park will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elm Street Urban Park. There will be live music, food and alcohol for sale to human attendees. Dogs are free to romp in a fenced-in park. There will be separate sections for large and small dogs, according to the Montgomery County Parks Department. The event will be held about 1 mile from the location of a future permanent dog park location in downtown Bethesda.

Craig Zucker and Delegates Eric Luedtke, Pam Queen and Anne Kaiser have all filed for re-election to their respective seats in Annapolis in 2022. They all serve District 14, which covers the eastern part of the county, including Damascus, Olney and Burtonsville.  Zucker has been in the state Senate since 2016, and was a delegate from 2010 to 16. Luedtke has served as House Majority Leader since 2019, and has been in the House since 2010. Kaiser is chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, and is former House Majority Leader. She was first elected in 2002.
