ROCKVILLE, MD Hans Riemer has joined the race for Montgomery County Executive, running against incumbent Marc Elrich and David Blair, an entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Riemer has served as a council member for three terms, the maximum allowed in Montgomery County. He cited economic development, housing, police reform, education, climate policy, and finishing the Purple Line as primary areas of concern if he is elected county executive.

And then there were three candidates running for Montgomery County Executive in the June 2022 primary.
County Executive Marc Elrich previously announced he is seeking re-election. He was elected to that position in November of 2018. As of June 1, he has two opponents, County Councilmember Hans Riemer and businessperson David Blair.
As Riemer strongly hinted previously, he will run for that office as will Blair, who lost to Elrich by fewer than 80 votes in June of 2018.
Riemer is kicking off his campaign at noon on June 12 at the Silver Spring Brewing Company in Metro Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring. “Montgomery County needs progressive leadership that is effective and forward thinking. It is time to move on from the politics of the past. You know my deep convictions for Democratic values and my record as a councilmember with a vision for the future,” he wrote in announcing his candidacy.
The field of candidates for Maryland’s 2022 gubernatorial election continues to grow.
Most recently, John King, the former Education Secretary under President Barack Obama, put his hat in the ring and is putting education at the forefront of his campaign.
King, a Silver Spring resident, announced his candidacy Tuesday morning on social media, with a campaign announcement video. The video opens with former President Obama’s narration discussing King’s lifelong experience as an educator.
I’m running for governor of Maryland because I see the vision of a prosperous future for our state, built on economic, racial, climate, and educational justice.
