Rockville biotechnology expansion will add up to 245 jobs in four years
Vigene Biosciences, a Rockville biotechnology company that specializes in gene therapy development, announced Thursday that it is expanding to a new facility in Montgomery County at 14200 Shady Grove Road.
The new 52,000-square-foot space will “accommodate industry demand for its gene and cellular therapy products,” according to a press release from the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation.
There are 125 employees at Vigene Biosciences. The expansion will add up to 245 jobs by the end of 2025, the press release stated.

On Demand Pharmaceuticals, a drug manufacturing company, is creating a new headquarters in Rockville to focus on research, development and manufacturing.
The company recently signed a $20 million contract with the U.S Department of Defense and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
It will develop a domestic production capability “for critical active pharmaceutical ingredients and medicines using its proprietary pharmacy on demand technology,” according to a Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation press release.
“[Pharmacy on demand technology] is a modular manufacturing machine the size of a small household refrigerator that can be quickly customized to produce pharmaceuticals from key starting materials to [active pharmaceutical ingredients] and final formulated drugs,” the press release stated.
