Credit: Montgomery Police A quick thinking Montgomery County Animal Services employee recognized the dog named Joey when police say the suspect brought him in on Wednesday. The man claimed the dog was a stray. But the employee had seen the dog on a social media post that reported the animal had been stolen. Montgomery County Police say the suspect drove the stolen SUV to the animal shelter and tried to pass off the dog as a stray. The employee also recognized the stolen SUV. Malik Gillispie, 24, of Germantown is now charged with stealing the SUV from the parking garage at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda Tuesday night.

For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 7, 2021 The Office of Animal Services’ Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) will begin hosting free appointment-based rabies clinics for dogs, cats, and ferrets of Montgomery County residents. The clinics will take place at the County’s animal shelter facility located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood, on select Wednesdays beginning Jan. 20. The Office of Animal Services recognizes that the free rabies clinics are an important resource for pet owners in the community. Due to COVID-19, to minimize risk for both participants and staff, the clinics will be appointment-based only. All appointments must be made online through the MCASAC website. Appointments may be made up to three weeks in advance. At this time, MCASAC will not provide pet licensing or microchipping services as part of the clinics but hope to add these options in the future.
