No music artist is more intrinsically identified with Los Angeles than Los Lobos unless, say, we’re talking the Beach Boys, Thee Midnighters, Jackson Browne, Little Feat, Buffalo Springfield or the Blasters, to name a few of the fellow homegrown musicians that the group proudly covers on “Native Sons,” their debut for the New West label.

Not that long ago, Alter Ego was in the same situation as a lot of other bands during the pandemic.
“There was nothing to do,” said vocalist Ray Humphrey.
Shows cancelled again and again. Even after restrictions began to let up, finding an open venue with a stage big enough to fit a 6-piece rock and roll band proved difficult.
“There’s not many places to play for our style band,” Humphrey said.
Then came Joe Smith and The Junkyard, a monthly open mic event hosted at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre. Alter Ego was more than glad to be a part of it.
