Moffat County issues COVID-19 changes ahead of state phasing out dial

Starting Friday, Colorado counties will be left to decide how to control rising coronavirus cases and hospitalizations as the statewide COVID-19 dial system, which has set public health restrictions for the past seven months, moves from a mask mandate to a recommendation. In Moffat County, commissioners and the Board of Public Health have decided to have no local public health mandates in place at this time. In response to the State of Colorado changes to the COVID-19 policy, mandates and Public Health Orders, the Moffat County Board of Commissioners issued the following guidance to county residents, business owners and visitors to the county Friday afternoon:

CDPHE, Moffat County to pause use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine over blood clot reports

Though more than 120,000 people in Colorado have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccination, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is halting distribution of the vaccine following reports of blood clots in patients who recently received the vaccine. In turn, Moffat County Public Health and Walgreens are pausing their use of the vaccination for the time being “out of an abundance of caution,” Moffat County Public Health Director Kari Ladrow stated Tuesday morning. “We are pausing the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccination out of an abundance of caution until it is approved by the FDA and CDPHE to resume use,” Ladrow said.

Public Health s equity clinic administers nearly 400 vaccinations Tuesday

More than 400 Moffat County residents received first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday at the Moffat County Fairground Pavilion as part of Public Health’s Equity Clinic. Previously, Public Health was scheduled to receive 500 vaccinations from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for the equity clinic, which was designed to reach the more vulnerable populations within the community inside the eligible criteria. The CDPHE offered to any Public Health department in the state to host an equity clinic, which led to Moffat County taking advantage of the opportunity to do some community outreach. “As a frontier community, we recognize that there are equity issues within the community, so we’re trying to reach to out to people that might not otherwise be able to receive the vaccine,” Public Health Director Kari Ladrow said. “This is to get vaccines to underserved communities, whether that’s because of internet access to sign up for the vaccine,
