Two suspects believed to be driving a car reported stolen in Summit County led the Colorado State Patrol on a more than 100-mile car chase Monday morning, spanning multiple jurisdictions from the town of Vail into Moffat County, where they were taken into custody.
Police allege that along the way, the suspects attempted to carjack someone near the town of Rifle, and that the passenger in the stolen vehicle at one point reached out his window and fired two rounds from a handgun.
Patricia Rae Stead-Pacheco, 31, of Denver, and Jose Munoz-Jara, 19, are both in custody in the Moffat County Detention Facility.

Colorado State Patrol responded to a single vehicle rollover crash around 2:32 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 that sent a 15-year-old Moffat County teenager to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

As avalanche season and winter recreation heats up in Moffat County, the volunteer Search and Rescue unit is currently accepting applications for new members for 2021.
According to SAR Captain Barry Barnes, Moffat County’s outfit currently has 15 active members, but is hoping to push closer to 24-25 members in 2021.
“The more members we can get, the better,” Barnes said. “If we can get to 24 or 25 members, that’s great. It’s hard for people to get away; they have jobs, they have their families, so we don’t have a whole lot of people on missions when we have them. But the more the merrier.”

The 5th annual Shop with a Cop event went off without a hitch again this year at the Craig Wal-Mart, as the Craig Police Department, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol and Colorado Parks and Wildlife all participated in Saturday’s event, supporting underprivileged children in the Moffat County community.
