The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Negros Oriental and its local government unit (LGU) counterparts in the northern part of the province are continuously monitoring ground cracks to help mitigate the possible occurrence of landslides brought by incessant rains.

PDRRMO executive officer Adrian Sedillo, in an interview Monday, said the cracks are “normal occurrences” as ground movement can occur everywhere due to various reasons, but they have to be closely monitored and analyzed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) as significant breaks in the ground could lead to loosening of soil that may cause landslides.

SunStar Police on alert for Typhoon Auring

+ February 20, 2021 POLICE personnel in Central Visayas are on alert and standby in their respective police stations to ensure a fast response to any eventualities with Typhoon Auring expected to affect Cebu province.
Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo, Director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 ordered his personnel to standby in their police stations and prepare their search and rescue equipment.
Police Colonel Aladdin Collado, Cebu Provincial Police chief, said he has alerted his subordinates including their cooperation with the crisis response section of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion to assist them in the deployment in the northern provinces of Cebu.
SunStar February 18, 2021 THE state weather bureau’s station in Mactan, Cebu has advised the public, including the people living in prone areas, to prepare for Tropical Storm Auring, which is expected to bring 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall in Cebu and other parts of Visayas over the weekend.
Flooding is expected as every one millimeter (mm) of rain is equivalent to 5,000 drums or barrels of rain per square kilometer.
The disaster management offices of Mandaue City, Medellin town and Cebu Province have started to prepare for the impact of Auring.
Jhomer Eclarino, weather specialist at the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan, said Auring was expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm before it makes its first landfall in Caraga by Saturday evening, Feb. 20, 2021 or Sunday morning, Feb. 21.
