Cape Cod s best beach? AAA chooses Race Point
It was the only beach on Cape Cod or in Massachusetts to make the list.
Here is what North America’s largest motoring and leisure travel organization (60 million members) has to say about the Cape tip gem in their June 2021 top five article: Since 1961, when President John F. Kennedy signed legislation creating the Cape Cod National Seashore, nearly 40 miles of pristine shoreline have been protected from development. You’ll find one of its six beaches – Race Point Beach – at the very tip of the Cape’s arm in Provincetown, jutting into the Atlantic. The views of the endless seas are breathtaking. Oftentimes you can see whales and a seal or two off in the distance.
WELLFLEET Cape Cod National Seashore operations will begin Memorial Day weekend with fewer COVID-19 restrictions, according to a press release. We are moving toward pre-pandemic experiences, Superintendent Brian Carlstrom wrote. While acknowledging pandemic protocols were changing, Carlstrom said the National Park Service will remain focused on keeping staff, volunteers and the public safe through wearing masks when appropriate, maintaining social distance, and observing capacity limits.”
Beginning May 29, fees will be collected on Saturdays and Sundays and on Memorial Day at Little Creek/Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, and Race Point and Herring Cove beaches in Provincetown. Nauset Light and Head of the Meadow beaches will be fee-free until June 17.
WELLFLEET – The Cape Cod National Seashore’s popular ranger-guided programs this season will more closely resemble a normal summer, but don’t expect events to be back at pre-pandemic levels just yet, Seashore officials say.
“We’re looking at what we can do safely, given the state and National Park Service protocols,” said Sue Moynihan, the Seashore’s chief of interpretation and cultural resources management, “and given the current infection rates around the country and right here in the county.”
It’s difficult to plan too far in advance, Moynihan added, so the park’s activity schedule remains fluid.
Summer 2021 in the Seashore will be “much better than last summer,” but it won’t look like 2019, she said.

It was a smart watch instead of a Fitbit, but the well-intentioned gift was fraught with guilt. We knew weâd never match the writer David Sedaris, who claims to walk as many as 65,000 steps a day, but prompted by the âGreat Enumeratorâ on one of our wrists, we usually managed 6,085 steps on our morning Charles River loop. To hit the magic number of 10,000, we needed a change of scenery. Weâve been spending time hiking on Cape Cod, and gathered some of our favorite trails for a three-day spring escape built around 10,000 daily steps through the Capeâs rich blend of geography, history, and culture.
