North Magnolia Avenue, West Poplar Street, South Popular Street and Beech Street are all mentioned in a project description for repaving. Carr says they are a major problem for citizens. “On these streets, we have potholes up and down the street,” Carr said. “A lot of the citizens are complaining about these potholes, so we just want to thank Sen. [Juan] Barnett, and also the state of Mississippi for helping us with this project.” Carr also says they are accepting bids for the next three weeks and hope to have the work done by the end of May.

Grand Avenue work in Gurnee resumes; July targeted for completion   Updated 4/22/2021 3:45 PM Construction on Grand Avenue (Route 132) between Route 41 and Waveland Avenue in Gurnee resumed Thursday. Traffic on Grand is being reduced to one lane in each direction from Route 41 to Magnolia Avenue as part of the ongoing work. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained during construction.   Work is anticipated to be completed in July. The $19.8 million project consists of removal and replacement of the Union Pacific Railroad bridge, new sidewalks, curbs, retaining walls, storm sewers and ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps. Widening Grand Avenue and the southbound Route 41 ramp also are part of the project.

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and found the suspect on a sidewalk after apparently falling from a balcony, still holding a knife, authorities said.
