San Joaquin County will receive its first round of COVID-19 vaccines next week.
County Public Health Officer Maggie Park says the state is expecting 327,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine in its first round of distribution. Of those, the county has been allocated nearly 4,900 to be delivered on Dec. 15.
The county was one of 32 early recipients because it has a special freezer equipped to reach very low temperatures, Park said at a county Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday. The vaccine must be stored at minus 112 degrees. As soon as it s approved by the (U.S. Food and Drug administration), we are expecting that shipments of those that are already available will immediately be dispensed, Park said.
