Navigating college isn t easy for everybody. Many students may be the first of their family to attend higher education or do not have the luxury of purely focusing on their education without interruption. But a new TRIO Student Support Services RISE Program hopes to alleviate a little bit of pressure for some students. We are what you need us to be to get through college, Director of Student Support Services Alicia Reddin said. Having someone in your corner to help walk you through and to help navigate the system is extremely important and can drastically change an outcome. Reddin said the federal TRIO program has existed in some form since the 1960s. The college s chief diversity officer saw a need at MCLA so the school applied.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts announces its 2021 Innovation & Entrepreneurship Challenge. Each senior will present their business plan in a recorded eight-minute pitch to the judges, Mayor Tom Bernard and Bruce Lessels, founder of Zoar Outdoor in Charlemont.
The MCLA community is invited to cast their vote on the proposals from 5 p.m. Monday, May 3, to 8 a.m. Friday, May 7. To watch and vote, visit lnk.mcla.edu/thechallenge.
The judges will deliberate and the community votes will be tallied to determine the winners. The first-place project will be awarded $7,500, second place $5,000, and third place $2,500 toward start-up funding to cover inventory, equipment, and marketing for the business.
The number of campuses requiring students to be vaccinated is increasing

On Thursday, 10-campus University of California and the 23-campus California State University announced they will require vaccines for students on campus
Others public or state Universities in New York, Maryland and Rhode Island have also announced the requirement, as many launch vaccination blitzes
Non-vaccinated UC students will be barred from in-person access to campus
