Public institutions provide increased access to higher education and can transform lives, as Westfield State University did for Paul W. Dower. His legacy will be the establishment of two funds in excess of $1 million to support the next generation of Westfield State students.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. After submitting a petition for Council President Peter Marchetti to relinquish his leadership and step down, Ward 7 Councilor Anthony Maffuccio motioned to file his own petition for the sake of unity. This motion resulted in unanimous approval and may be a step forward for council that has had members publicly reproving each other. I submitted this petition on two key factors: Councilor Marchetti has taken it upon himself to filter through my petitions not once but twice when supporting documents to this petition were presented and new information developed I tried resubmitting them, Maffuccio said. This is freedom of speech to me, we have a job to do. I am very frustrated with the way things were handled inappropriately because it was a colleague.
The Education Department at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts holds classes each semester that are designed to help prepare students for the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure.
Passing the MTEL is a requirement for teacher licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Each class will focus on a specific test, and will be taught by instructors knowledgeable in both the content/skill area and the test.
The spring MTEL preparation classes will take place online on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20 and 21. Communication & Literacy meets from 9 a.m. to noon and Foundations of Reading from 1 to 4 p.m. The date for the mathematics sub-test is to be announced.
