BOSTON Fearing that the holiday season could fuel an explosion of COVID-19 cases that the state’s health care system would not be able to handle, Gov. Charlie Baker on Tuesday announced new restrictions that seek to limit the number of people in most businesses, public spaces, and private homes for at least two weeks after Christmas.
Starting Saturday and running until at least noon on Jan. 10, restaurants, movie theaters, performance venues, casinos, offices, places of worship, retail businesses, fitness centers, health clubs, libraries, golf facilities, driving and flight schools, arcades, museums, and “sectors not otherwise addressed” must limit their customer capacity to a maximum of 25 percent.

Doctors, lawmakers and public health leaders calling on Gov. Charlie Baker to close indoor dining, implement more protections amid COVID surge
Updated Dec 21, 2020;
Hundreds of doctors, lawmakers and public health leaders are demanding more public health protections amid a continued rise in coronavirus infections across Massachusetts.
Nearly 20 organizations and more than 200 individuals have signed an open letter urging Gov. Charlie Baker to, among other things, close indoor dining, reinstate the evictions moratorium and use remaining CARES Act funds to help small businesses.
The group is asking the Baker administration to pass emergency sick time for people who’ve been exposed to COVID-19 and are in isolation, increase access to testing and provide more support for local health departments in an effort to “prevent more avoidable loss of life and illness,” the letter states.
