BRAINTREE, MA Braintree was designated high-risk in the state s latest town-by-town coronavirus states Thursday.
The town s positive test rate jumped to 5.83 percent over that last two weeks. Braintree also had 70.4 average daily cases per 100,000 residents, up from 4.48 percent and 47.91 last week.
The town added 391 new cases in the last two weeks, bringing it to over 2,000 total cases.

Braintree s rise in cases has started to effect the school system. The district implemented fully remote learning Friday and will remain out of the classroom until at least Jan. 4.

Saugus has third highest rate of COVID-19 infections in Massachusetts

Saugus had 541 confirmed COVID-19 cases from Dec.1-15, which, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s data, amounted to the town having the third highest rate of virus infections in the state over that time period.
MassDPH reported the town had an average daily incidence rate of 135.7 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people in the two weeks leading up to Dec. 15. Only Lawrence and Nantucket had a higher virus infection rate during that same stretch.
State figures showed a total of 1,886 COVID-19 cases in Saugus since the onset of the pandemic. The town’s percent positivity on COVID-19 tests is 11.14% over the last two weeks.

Massachusetts reported 5,632 new confirmed coronavirus cases and an additional 53 deaths on Friday.
There have now been 11,358 confirmed deaths and 302,933 cases, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Another 252 deaths are considered probably linked to COVID-19.
The percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive, on average, ticked up to 6.13%, according to the report.
The number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 has increased to 1,874. Of that number, 370 were listed as being in intensive care units and 204 are intubated, according to DPH.
Friday s numbers were announced just hours before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approve the second coronavirus vaccine.
New COVID-19 cases in Worcester County set another weekly record on Thursday, surpassing 4,000 for the second straight time.
Worcester County now has nearly 34,000 cases since the pandemic began, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, with nearly half of those cases taking place in the past six weeks.
Across Massachusetts, cases in the past week nearly reached the record set just a week prior, with nearly 33,000 new cases. The state now has 292,316 total cases since March.

The state s 14-day rate of new cases, a key metric used by the DPH, continues to climb. It stood at 65.1 per 100,000 on Thursday, a rise from 50 a week prior. In Central Massachusetts, 18 cities and towns exceed the state average.
