Vineyard Wind gets approval to be first large offshore U S wind project

Today’s offshore wind project announcement demonstrates that we can fight the climate crisis, while creating high-paying jobs and strengthening our competitiveness at home and abroad,” said Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in a statement. “This project is an example of the investments we need to achieve the Biden-Harris administration’s ambitious climate goals, and I’m proud to be part of the team leading the charge on offshore wind.”  Since 2017, the Vineyard Wind project has been subject to a federal review process that generated more than 30,000 public comments, more than 90% of which supported the project, according to the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Two CAS Faculty Honored for Teaching

Twitter Facebook In 2010, 10 years before the COVID-19 pandemic gave many faculty members only a few days to master new teaching technologies, Binyomin Abrams was producing dozens of short videos and seamlessly integrating them into the coursework of first-year chemistry courses. Today, more than 80 videos, many of them tied to courses and webinars, help Abrams’ students learn fundamental concepts in chemistry. His videos, as well as his innovative approach to helping remote students attend labs synchronously, are among the reasons that the College of Arts & Sciences master lecturer in chemistry and director of general chemistry has been awarded the Gerald and Deanne Gitner Family Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology. The annual award provides $10,000 to the faculty member who best exemplifies innovation in teaching by using technology.

In the latest step attempting to resolve two separate actions involving a dispute over a proposed development on the City of Boston waterfront, a Massachusetts Superior Court judge recently held that the Commonwealth’s municipal harbor plan regulatory scheme was irreconcilable with the Commonwealth’s “Chapter 91” statute, which controls and dictates all development activity in and around tidelands of the Commonwealth.  The Court explained that it could find no discernable wiggle room in Chapter 91’s provisions f
