Priest, Now Dead, Responsible for 1972 Murder of Altar Boy in Chicopee: DA © Provided by New England Cable News
The investigation into the 1972 murder of a 13-year-old altar boy in Chicopee, Massachusetts has been closed after investigators obtained additional information about a recently-deceased priest connected to the case.
Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said in a press conference Monday he had sought an arrest warrant for the priest, Richard Lavigne, after recently obtaining new admissions from Lavigne. However, Lavigne died Friday in a Greenfield hospital before the warrant could be obtained.
Gulluni said the new information was enough to close the investigation into the murder of Danny Croteau, whose remains were recovered by law enforcement authorities on April 15, 1972. Lavigne, the family’s parish priest, was the only person to ever be publicly named as a suspect in the case, according to WWLP.
