June 26, 1948-Sept. 19, 2020 Born in Williamsport, Ron was the son of Mary Elizabeth (Jolin) and Robert D. Smith and was raised in Lock Haven. He graduated in the last senior class of Immaculate Conception High School in 1966. He graduated from Lock Haven University in 1970 with a BS degree in English and Education and was the editor of “The Eagle Eye” university newspaper. Ron was also a Navy journalist on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War. He was a journalist and city editor at the GRIT Publishing Co., where he met his wife, Dawn Minier (Watsontown). They married in 1976 and relocated to Syracuse, N.Y., where Ron was employed as a Public Relations Consultant to the Syracuse Catholic Diocese.

Jamaican teen creates history at US high school

Kimberly Cross. Seventeen-year-old Kimberly Cross, a Jamaican now attending East Orange Campus High School in New Jersey, United States, has made history by being the first student from the institution to be accepted to an Ivy League university. Cross received a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Princeton University, starting September 2021. Having attended the Immaculate Conception High School in Jamaica up to grade 10, she migrated to New Jersey, where she now stands out as a model student with a perfect GPA of 4.0. Her mother, Kay Clarke, told The Gleaner that she faced economic and other challenges as she raised her only child, but despite the hardships, Kimberly kept her eyes fixed on her educational goals.

The restaurant has had its share, from the initial groundbreaking stages to waiting on the green light of having their name approved; then having the business interrupted by the Constant Spring Road improvement, and just when it was thought that this would be the year to start afresh, the pandemic hits. “We’ve had our baptism by fire; but part of why we took the opportunity to establish a business like this right here is because all of us, having grown up on this side of town, experienced when there weren’t a lot of options for food places. If you wanted anything other than the usual burger, fried chicken and patty, you would have to move further into the Corporate Area,” she said.
