Loss of licence bad news for Bowen farm worker

Premium Content Subscriber only A French farm worker finds himself in a tough spot after losing his licence for drink-driving. Joris Robles appeared at Bowen Magistrates Court this week, where he pleaded guilty to driving over the middle alcohol limit on Horseshoe Bay Road on April 23. He told police he had consumed six beers with friends before testing positive in a roadside breath test about 9.15pm. A subsequent test returned a reading of 0.114 per cent. Representing himself in court, Robles told Magistrate Ron Muirhead: “It won’t happen again.” Mr Muirhead recorded a conviction and imposed an $800 fine. He disqualified Robles’ licence for four months.

Young man used Snapchat to abuse victim

Premium Content Subscriber only A man who abused his victim via Snapchat, calling her a mutt among other names, appeared in the Gladstone Magistrates Court via video-link on Friday. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, 18, pleaded guilty to five counts of contravening a domestic violence order (aggravated offence) and contravening a direction or requirement of police. Police prosecutor Tania Griffiths said the worst of the defendant s crimes occurred on February 10, 2021 at 3pm. The defendant sent a text message which stated, F - you c -say all the s - you want to have kids and s - then as soon as that rat c in town its another story, the text read.
