Suit alleges logistics company fired employee over Workers Compensation claim

Scoggins | crowderscoggins.com EDWARDSVILLE A former logistics company employee claims he was fired in retaliation for filing a Workers Compensation claim.  Robernelle Foster filed a complaint  Feb. 22 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Out of The Box Logistics LLC alleging retaliatory discharge.  According to his complaint, Foster was working for Out of The Box Logistics on Dec. 22, 2020, at its Collinsville facility and alleges he suffered an injury to his foot and ankle. Foster allegedly filed for Workers Compensation benefits and began seeking medical treatment for his injuries. He claims he was then fired on Jan. 6 in retaliation for filling a Workers Compensation claim, which the suit states is in violation of public policy and in violation of the Workers Compensation Act. 

Staunton pub sued after drunk driver allegedly caused crash

Ely Hadowsky | brownlawoffice.com EDWARDSVILLE A Staunton Pub that allegedly served a drunk driver and the woman who rented him a vehicle are accused of negligence.  Adam Gregor filed a complaint Feb. 19 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Skeeter s Pub Inc., Kyle Rothe and Frances Manley, alleging negligence.  According to the complaint, Rothe had been drinking alcoholic beverages at Skeeter s Pub on South Hackman Street in Staunton on Feb. 20, 2020. Gregor claims that Rothe drove while intoxicated. Rothe allegedly crossed over into the northbound lane of traffic on Illinois Route 157, struck his vehicle and caused him to suffer injuries.  Gregor claims Manley had rented the vehicle Rothe was driving from Enterprise Leasing Company, which allegedly had personal knowledge of Rothe s tendency or likelihood to use the vehicle in a manner involving an unreasonable risk of harm to others. Suit alleges insurance carrier failed to indemnify policy holder

Simon EDWARDSVILLE A Collinsville-based finance company facing class actions for allegedly repossessing debtors vehicles, alleges its insurance carrier has failed to provide indemnification per the insurance policy.   Universal Credit Acceptance Inc., filed a complaint Feb. 19 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Zurich American Insurance Company alleging breach of contract.  According to the complaint, Universal Credit Acceptance claims it is facing multiple class action suits and that its insurance carrier, Zurich American, has reused to indemnify it in defense of the litigation. Universal alleges it entered into an insurance policy agreement with Zurich American for property and liability coverage and that the policy was effective from Dec. 1, 2008 through Nov. 1, 2016. (WLBT) - Madison County officials are seeking an attorney general’s opinion before taking over Canton’s 2021 municipal elections. The city petitioned the county to take over the elections in February, in part, citing the federal fraud charges were brought against city officials following the 2017 races. On Monday, the board directed board attorney Mike Espy to seek an opinion from the state attorney general to determine if the county could hire a private firm to run the elections, with some board members saying they want to wash their hands of it.
