EDWARDSVILLE Madison County property owners allege their insurer delayed handling and response to their claim after their property was destroyed by a fire.
Tim Patterson and Dawn Patterson, now know as Dawn Ward, filed a complaint Jan. 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Country Mutual Insurance Company, doing business as Country Financial, and Travis French, alleging breach of contract, consumer fraud and deceptive practices and other claims.
According to their complaint, the plaintiffs purchased home and property insurance from Country Mutual on April 7, 2011, that included a detached building and personal property contents. They allege that on Feb. 5, 2017, a fire destroyed the detached building and its contents, but Country Mutual allegedly breached its contractual duty by failing to pay their claim within a reasonable time.
EDWARDSVILLE A woman who allegedly fell down a staircase at an East Alton property and fractured her ankle is claiming the homeowner and tenant were negligent.

Prior to his run for circuit judge, Gibbons served as Madison County State’s Attorney for two terms. During his tenure as state s attorney, Gibbons initiated an opioid claim on behalf of Madison County residents and secured sentences for those convicted of violent crimes. He also faced criticism for initiating a task force that carried out several raids at the County Administration Building. No charges were filed as a result of those raids.
EDWARDSVILLE A woman claims she was a guest at a Cottage Hills home on New Year s Eve when she was allegedly thrown to the ground and landed on a hydraulic jack.
Paula Lawver filed a complaint Dec. 29 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Bobby Highsmith and Jack Talley, alleging negligence.
Lawver claims in her suit that on Dec. 31, she was an invited guest at Highsmith s home located on Virginia Avenue in Cottage Hills. It is unclear what year the incident occurred. She alleges that while there, Talley viciously attacked her and threw her to the ground, causing her to land on a hydraulic jack. As a result of the alleged attack, Lawver claims she suffered extensive injuries to her hip, shoulder and back.
EDWARDSVILLE A physician and two nurses at Anderson Hospital in Maryville are facing a wrongful death suit alleging they failed to administer a patient s medication correctly and in a timely manner.
David Wilkinson, as independent administrator of the Estate of Sharon Lancenese, filed a complaint Dec. 30 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Anderson Hospital, Robert Vergara, M.D., Jennifer Rines, R.N., and Lori Bertagnolli, R.N., alleging wrongful death.
According to Wilkinson s complaint, his mother, Sharon Lancenese, received treatment from the defendants at Anderson Hospital in Maryville from April 23-29, 2019. He specifically alleges that Vergara failed to administer Lancenese s prescribed medication, Lasix, in a timely manner, and failed to give Lancenese potassium and magnesium after the administration of the Lasix until the damage from not doing so was irreversible.
