McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport to switch to new airline June 1st, add routes and shorten flight time

View Comments McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport will be welcoming new airline Boutique Air on June 1, allowing passengers to fly more quickly, more stylishly and most importantly, more often. “I’m excited about the number of increased flights we’re going to see,” said McKellar-Sipes Director Steve Smith. “The (new) airplane flies higher and faster, and I’m also excited about the commitment this company has to making sure that the opportunities provided by this change in service is available to everyone…I don’t run the airline, but I’m very excited to see how this is going to unfold.” Boutique Air will be bringing a PC-12 Pilatus plane on board, which is a single-engine turboprop passenger and cargo plane that will cut down on flight times for the airport’s St. Louis and Atlanta routes.

Madison County honors fallen law enforcement at annual memorial

View Comments Madison County residents and representatives gathered at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Friday morning to commemorate the annual National Law Enforcement Memorial Service Day, and to remember the fallen officers of West Tennessee. Announced at the ceremony was the creation of Police Officers Memorial Day, to be honored throughout Madison County on May 15, 2021. The proclamation was presented by Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris and Jackson City Mayor Scott Conger. “This community will never forget (the fallen’s) service and their sacrifice for this community and for the state of Tennessee,” said Harris. “Thank you all that wear a uniform, no matter what your function is, because without you, our society would (be chaos). Thank you for your service we cherish the memories of those who have given their all in the line of duty protecting our community. We will never forget.”

They met at the Watson Center at noon, and gave The Lexington Progress the exclusive to cover the meeting. Henderson County Mayor Eddie Bray, Sheriff Brian Duke, County Commissioner Shana Duke and EMA Director Drew Cook were all present representing Henderson County. Some of the surrounding faces were also familiar, such as Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris, Decatur County Mayor Mike Creasy and Sheriff Bird, Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler, and Mike Smith, Director of Southwest Human Resource Agency.

Madison County mayor, local doctor react to mask mandate expiration

WBBJ TV March 31, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. After five months of a mask mandate, Madison County will let it expire. The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department announced Wednesday morning they were letting the county mask mandate expire at midnight. The mask mandate had been in place since early November, after counties throughout West Tennessee saw a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. According to the news release, the reason for letting the mandate expire was the recent drop in cases. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News spoke to Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris, who said another focus was the impact on the local healthcare system.
